Summary of a Nutritious Week by Kate Brightbill

Today I put sugar in my coffee and rice in my chicken soup.

It felt right.

I survived 6.75 days on the Whole30, and realized it's simply not for me in my lifestyle right now. I'm not lazy, but I also don't have or make the time it takes to get fresh groceries, and make all of my meals from scratch for breakfast, lunch and dinner for all of us daily. Super discouraging also when you check your almond milk carton when you get home, rather than remembering at the store, and then realizing it has a small amount of added sugar, and having to retrace back to the store, and then find out that only Whole Foods carries almond milk without sugar, and your children are crankier by the minute...

Perhaps this is only my experience?

I don't have the luxury of a car or a nanny or a chef, or a cleaning crew. It's just me and my little brigade of minis and I'm maxed out. So my almond milk has a little sugar, and so does the salmon glaze that I've added to dinner. I'm cool with that. Everything in moderation, eh? I'm moving on from all that.

I have learned a bit from the near-week that I did follow the rules {mostly}. Ready for it? Okay, here you go:

  • Almond butter with bananas is just as delicious as peanut butter and far healthier. In fact, it's an overall perfectly acceptable permanent substitute. Do try it!
  • Sweet potato fries. YES. Baked, salt, olive oil, DONE.
  • Burgers without buns are also totally acceptable, as long as the condiments are there. I didn't miss the bread.
  • Keeping good basics in the house is entirely more helpful than one would even think! It forces you to make better choices on the regular!
  • To contrast, keeping chips and ultra-processed snacks around are a good way to maintain an unhealthy balance.
  • There are bars that make healthy snacking a breeze and they're good to stock... my favs were select LunaBars, Trader Joe's all-fruit bars, and Nakd gluten free snacks {pictured at the bottom- they came c/o Nak'd and are gluten free, dairy free, no added sugar! Brilliant}.

Without further ado, may I present to you my proudest meals of Whole30. The first was actually my mom's crazy delicious salad, the second is grated zucchini and sweet potatoes, mixed with egg and seared in olive oil with another egg, tomato, lettuce and onion atop. It.was.good. The third was my favorite though: ceviche! Tons of lime juice, diced tomatoes, avocado, onion, and baby shrimp... I'll be making it on the regular {but now with tortilla chips on the side!}

Oh heyyy, is it already Monday?? Mondays are the day I talk about... my shop favorites!

Up for shop favorite this week are Baggu bags. I stock the medium and the mini in my shop. I lovvve the mini {pictured above} for picnic basics, lunches on the go, and the corner store runs particularly.

The standard size I use for everything. I first found these bags when I was planning a family reunion for - literally a potential of 110 people on my dad's side of the family {he is one of 14, so- as you may imagine - our family is enormous}. I put together baskets in the hotels for each family of things they may like to use during our three days, and included these Baggu bags in different colors and prints and everyone used them everywhere- shopping, hiking, lunching, etc.! Beach trips? Perfect for sand toys because you get home, you can just shake 'em out. Swim class? We load them with the wet suits and towels to toss in the laundry as soon as we get home. We love Baggu.

They fold into squares, stuff in the purse, and save the day time after time, so I'll be stocking them for a loooonnnnng time. :) More favorites below!

Loving and Linking by Kate Brightbill

HOW brilliant can one company be? First, "Bloom That" created the prettiest bouquets ever, give coupons that look like the "get out of jail free" cards, and now they've outdone themselves with bacon deliveries {and SOCKS and SUCCULENTS} for Father's Day weekend. I kid you not. I ordered one c/o their company and the answer is YES: My husband DID instagram a photo out of the excitement and love in his heart for his daughters who handed the box of fresh bacon to him... he DID NOT save a piece for me {all forgiven, I had my chance for bacon last month on Mother's Day}, and he IS still dreaming of eating more of it.

That's my first and most important link of the weekend. Here are the rest for ya:

89 Best outdoor restaurants in the city... Super helpful for us locals who love eating outside! {some of my favorites on there too, which always lifts credibility, you know? ha!}

My favorite home designer was interviewed for Matchbook Mag, and the interview & style are just as lovely as one would expect.

Gosh, how do people think of these brilliant ideas? Burger balloons, yes please.

Pretty printable pineapple wrapping paper

"It's better to build a man up rather than knock him down"... so true. #DadsDoRight

Why haven't I been making these all my life? YUM.

Hope you're having a fabulous weekend!!

Watches. Do my children know how to tell time? Nope! But they want to borrow my watch on the regular, and wear it around the house and make me nervous that it's going to get scratched, lost, or dropped in the garbage {what is it about toddlers that makes them think that throwing their mama's important things into garbages is so fun?}... not anymore, I say! May 28th created a line of beautiful and charming watches just for kids like yours and mine!

My lucky little girls received them in the mail and were beaming with... what's that I see? Pride! They suddenly consider themselves big girls if they have watches of their own!! We went to the park and showed them to everyone they could... If I knew this was the reaction they'd get, I would have saved the trouble of finding birthday gifts and just gifted these in the future! {isn't it funny what really takes the cake for kids?}

Sophie and I have already had a few telling time lessons. When we ask her the time, she can tell us what hour it is! It was "around 2:00" from 1:40- 2:40 or so. ;)

Was telling time anyone else's WORST moments of 1st grade? I felt totally competent in most subjects, but consistently failed to get the clock lessons right. I'm going to get these little cuties time-telling in no time.

We went with the flamingo and anchor, both VERY popular in our house, so they're taking turns with each daily. Here are some other cute options:

I was not compensated for this post. I received samples for review and we truly adore these watches around here! xx

Okay, so here's my new Monday series: favorites from my Shop, why I picked them for the shop, and how we love them around here.

First up! Tattly Animal Drivers set. Here's why I want them in the shop: they're good for boys AND girls, they LAST {about two weeks if they're in a spot away from the hands that get washed constantly}, and they're perfect for kids' parties! I ordered tattlys for Maggie's 2nd birthday party {which probably my favorite kid party I've thrown because it was so simple and entirely FUN!}, and used them to stick on the kiddos and bring smiles, and/or the kids can take 'em home with them in their goodie bags. Ah, goodie bags. Sophie insists that every single party we throw requires goodie bags, and I cannot justify buying tiny plastic bits and pieces and noisemakers that moms will be dying to throw away asap. It's fun to fill them with snacks {healthy-ish ones?}, stickers, and tattoos! Ps. these are veggie dyed with no toxins!

Maggie calls them stamps. I just call them fun.

Snag them over HERE.

Check out all the temporary tattoos we're loving & selling below!

Happy Monday!
