Crepe Paper Headband by Katie Brightbill

I'm on a little streak of making basic headbands for the girls. Sometimes I just get bored of the same clips or bands in their hair all the time, and I like a little variety. Bright color always perks up an outfit. Sophie particularly likes this one and she's been wearing it around all week, which makes me happy.

Supplies: Crepe paper cut to about one inch width, a basic plastic headband, a ribbon, and hot glue/gun.

Here's the how-to:
1. Fold your crepe paper strip lengthwise a few times and pinch it in your fingers.
2. Snip the edges toward the center. Be careful not to make your cuts too deep.
3. Repeat on the opposite edge, making sure you don't snip all the way through.
4. Unfold and use your hot glue gun to glue the intact center of the strip to the headband.
5. Hot glue a small ribbon wrapped around the ends of the band to make it more comfortable when worn.
6. Voila! You're finished. Let it dry and hope your little girl loves hers as much as mine does!

Kate

Small Style: Family Photo Op by Katie Brightbill

It may sound crazy, but 'tis the season for Christmas card photos... already!

My friend Caitlin of SugarSnaps recently did an amazing shoot that seriously epitomizes a stylish kid photo shoot. They created a cohesive "look" for the kids, but each outfit expresses the kids' individual personalities. It also proves that you can mix girly tulle with florals, leopards, plaids and moccasins and have things look completely put-together! Don't be afraid to mix patterns!

This outfit is actually full of items on my/Sophie's birthday and Christmas wishlist! Tulle skirt, Minnetonka boots, denim vest, colored shirt... outfit perfection.

P.S. If you live in the L.A./Orange County area, lucky you! Caitlin is amazing.

Sweater Loving by Katie Brightbill

I love sweaters. They're easy to get on and off, they're cozy, and they add some color or print any basic outfit. Around here, it doesn't generally get warm enough for anyone to really see the bottom layers, so I tend to stock up on very plain tees and tops, then make things a bit brighter when it comes to the girls' sweater selection. That way, there's always a little extra punch to an outfit.

Dotty Headband by Katie Brightbill

I think it's time to be crafty again.

I made this little headband in five minutes. I'm not quite sure where I got the green elastic band, but it worked perfectly for what I wanted! I've seen them in craft stores everywhere, so I'm sure they're simple to find. Here's all you do:

- Measure the elastic around your child's head and cut accordingly.
- Use a hot glue gun to attach the ends.
- Cut circle dots out of felt.
- Hot glue them to the other side of the band.
- Let dry.
- Finished!

Mini Trench by Katie Brightbill

Who doesn't love a good trenchcoat in the fall? Annnd now they make them in mini sizes. The rain arrived this week and this is perfect for protecting Sophie from rain when we're getting out and about. It's also a good option if your little one picks their own outfit underneath, but you want them to look a little put-together when you go out... just add the trench and they're instantly stylish!

We added a little bow that I made (in a fall burgundy! See the tutorial here... I made this one a little bigger) and she was good to go.

The trench is from Zara and comes in classic khaki too!

Costume Inspiration: Little Artist by Katie Brightbill

I'm going to be straight with you: I'm not really into spending $$$ on Halloween costumes. I LOVE to have my girls dressed in fun little costumes, but to spend tons on something that they'd wear once or twice isn't my style. I prefer to be creative with costumes and use what I have around the house!

I wrote about some ideas we've had for costumes on the Honest blog today, and would love if you'd head over there to take a look and (hopefully) be inspired! We'll have more last-minute costume ideas for you here in the next couple weeks. Oh, and to make this little artist costume for your kiddo:

ARTIST:
A tee or tank
An old dishtowel you don't mind ruining
A ribbon long enough to wrap around their waist and tie
A hat (or if you have a scarf, that works great too... just tie it on the top of their head to make them look extra artsy)
Have them hold their paintbrush and paints to truly get that painter look

Take an old dishtowel and paint with your little one, all over in different colors. Let it dry. Have your little one hold it up to their tummy and wrap a ribbon snug around their belly and tie a bow. I actually hot glued the ribbon to her towel for a little extra hold, and then tied the remaining ribbon in a bow. Add a hat and you're good to go!
(honestly, so simple I'm wondering why I gave official directions... you're probably wondering the same!)

PS. Anyone else OVER this warm weather? Shorts and tanks just is not my style. Let's get back to the scarves and tights and fires in the fireplace season, mmmkay? Whatever the weather near you, have fun this weekend!!

Kate
