Mini Trench by Katie Brightbill

Who doesn't love a good trenchcoat in the fall? Annnd now they make them in mini sizes. The rain arrived this week and this is perfect for protecting Sophie from rain when we're getting out and about. It's also a good option if your little one picks their own outfit underneath, but you want them to look a little put-together when you go out... just add the trench and they're instantly stylish!

We added a little bow that I made (in a fall burgundy! See the tutorial here... I made this one a little bigger) and she was good to go.

The trench is from Zara and comes in classic khaki too!

Costume Inspiration: Little Artist by Katie Brightbill

I'm going to be straight with you: I'm not really into spending $$$ on Halloween costumes. I LOVE to have my girls dressed in fun little costumes, but to spend tons on something that they'd wear once or twice isn't my style. I prefer to be creative with costumes and use what I have around the house!

I wrote about some ideas we've had for costumes on the Honest blog today, and would love if you'd head over there to take a look and (hopefully) be inspired! We'll have more last-minute costume ideas for you here in the next couple weeks. Oh, and to make this little artist costume for your kiddo:

ARTIST:
A tee or tank
An old dishtowel you don't mind ruining
A ribbon long enough to wrap around their waist and tie
A hat (or if you have a scarf, that works great too... just tie it on the top of their head to make them look extra artsy)
Have them hold their paintbrush and paints to truly get that painter look

Take an old dishtowel and paint with your little one, all over in different colors. Let it dry. Have your little one hold it up to their tummy and wrap a ribbon snug around their belly and tie a bow. I actually hot glued the ribbon to her towel for a little extra hold, and then tied the remaining ribbon in a bow. Add a hat and you're good to go!
(honestly, so simple I'm wondering why I gave official directions... you're probably wondering the same!)

PS. Anyone else OVER this warm weather? Shorts and tanks just is not my style. Let's get back to the scarves and tights and fires in the fireplace season, mmmkay? Whatever the weather near you, have fun this weekend!!

XO,
Kate

Organized Traveler by Katie Brightbill

I went a little OCD today.

I confess: I'm an organized traveler. I don't want to go anywhere and have clothing all over the floor because we were searching for pj's and didn't have time to be deliberate about it. I want to really have a plan so that whether it's me opening that suitcase, or a family member who hasn't the faintest idea what belongs to whom, it's all very clear...

So this is what I did. I used index cards to label everything. I even post-it noted what shoes go with the church clothes on the other side of the card. I went crazy OCD...

In my defense, my mom took my girls for a nice walk today, so I had spare time on my hands. So this is what would happen if I didn't have children or a job. Thank goodness I have children rather than spare time.

When it's all said and done, I'm perfectly happy being the crazy girl with the meticulous packing habits. I'm also perfectly content with the fact that I don't generally have time to have any semblance of my former organized self, because it means my time is being filled instead with noise and laughter and happy MESS.

XO.

Sophie Style by Katie Brightbill

High ponytail, lacy tee, pink leggings, sparkle shoes, and Maggie's jean jacket... wait what? Yes, Sophie fits a jean jacket that's for 12-18 month babies. So does Maggie since she actually IS in that size range. They're sharing clothes already and I LOVE it. Sophie actually owns the 4T one, but it's pretty big on her. I like jean jackets when they're a size or two (or five) smaller than they're supposed to be. They fit more snug and look a little cropped. For some reason when the arms are full length, Sophie won't let me roll them, but if they're half of her arm she is fine rolling them a little extra. Go figure! It makes sense to her somehow. The best part about this outfit is that the cost is about $25 altogether for the pants, shirt and jacket. Carters and Target at their best! I love when good deals can also translate into good little play outfits.

Gingham Love by Katie Brightbill

I don't have any little boys in my house, but I love little boy style. There are fewer options than those of girly clothes, but I love that they tend to stay classic. Cute little boys look adorable in anything.

My favorite thing I've been seeing lately on little boys is gingham shirts. Any and every color. If I DID have a little boy, here's how I'd be dressing him this fall:

Look One. Purple Gingham, Cords, Converse
Look Two. Green GinghamJeans, Boots
