Small Style: Family Photo Op by Katie Brightbill

It may sound crazy, but 'tis the season for Christmas card photos... already!

My friend Caitlin of SugarSnaps recently did an amazing shoot that seriously epitomizes a stylish kid photo shoot. They created a cohesive "look" for the kids, but each outfit expresses the kids' individual personalities. It also proves that you can mix girly tulle with florals, leopards, plaids and moccasins and have things look completely put-together! Don't be afraid to mix patterns!

This outfit is actually full of items on my/Sophie's birthday and Christmas wishlist! Tulle skirt, Minnetonka boots, denim vest, colored shirt... outfit perfection.

P.S. If you live in the L.A./Orange County area, lucky you! Caitlin is amazing.

Today I'm thankful for our home and electricity and cozy slippers and safety that we so often take for granted. We are praying for you east coasters who have been displaced and are without electricity, and for your little ones who may be scared by unfamiliar sounds and surroundings.

Lots of love,
Kate & Erin

Sweater Loving by Katie Brightbill

I love sweaters. They're easy to get on and off, they're cozy, and they add some color or print any basic outfit. Around here, it doesn't generally get warm enough for anyone to really see the bottom layers, so I tend to stock up on very plain tees and tops, then make things a bit brighter when it comes to the girls' sweater selection. That way, there's always a little extra punch to an outfit.

Sick Monday by Katie Brightbill

Today we're battling colds. These colds are trying to get us down, but we aren't letting them. We have plenty of books to read, ballet moves to be danced (Sophie had to miss this week's class!), and cozy socks to keep us warm while we watch movies together.

Pick Some Apples by Katie Brightbill

Apple picking... Who knew it was such an amazing experience? Our closest apple orchard is Apple Hill, located near Placerville. There are tons of growers and orchards with a few miles! My personal favorite is called Kids Inc. They have a scenic trail for a rustic stroll, there are small animals to visit, and the best part: "Walkin' Pies," mini domes of thinly sliced apples that have been wrapped in pie dough and topped with cider sauce. I'm craving one as I write...

No wonder apples are one of my favorite things about fall! Do yourself a favor and find an apple orchard near you to explore (and hope they have amazing apple desserts too!).

Erin

Dotty Headband by Katie Brightbill

I think it's time to be crafty again.

I made this little headband in five minutes. I'm not quite sure where I got the green elastic band, but it worked perfectly for what I wanted! I've seen them in craft stores everywhere, so I'm sure they're simple to find. Here's all you do:

- Measure the elastic around your child's head and cut accordingly.
- Use a hot glue gun to attach the ends.
- Cut circle dots out of felt.
- Hot glue them to the other side of the band.
- Let dry.
- Finished!
